People in Pima County are falling victim to a scam that preys on those who just went in for jury duty. Officers are warning people not to give out their personal information.
Scammers are pretending to be a sheriff’s officer and calling people saying there’s a warrant out for their arrest.
Pima County Deputy Cody Gress said scammers are asking people to settle their debts with prepaid cards.
"No law enforcement agency, whether it’s Pima County Sheriff’s Department or any government entity, is going to call somebody individually and ask them to pay over the phone to take care of a warrant or some other kind of criminal matter," Gress said.
Gress said if you get a call from a scammer, you should immediately file a report with the police.
