Boas Weighs In On Changes To Oregon Gas Law

Now we’re going to check in with the Editorial Board of The Arizona Republic. It’s a regular segment where we talk about the big issues facing the state and the region—featured in the newspaper’s Viewpoints section.

Today, we’ll deviate a bit from that—as we cover an item from the Pacific Northwest.

Oregon has always prevented its residents from pumping their own gas — until this week, when a new law was implemented to let drivers in some rural counties go with self-service. The state had been trying to keep certain jobs, like the full-service attendant, from being eliminated.

Phil Boas, director of The Arizona Republic’s Editorial Department, wrote about the Oregon law and is with me for our weekly conversation.
