Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake Disagrees With Trump On DACA And The Press

Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake appeared on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. When asked about the status of DACA, Flake said he disagrees with President Donald Trump's comments that the Democratic Party is not moving forward in good faith.

"I’ve been negotiating and working with the democrats on immigration for 17 years,” Flake said," And on this issue, on DACA or on the Dream Act, for a number of years. The democrats are negotiating in good faith. We are trying to come forward with a compromise."

Flake said he supports a comprehensive bill, but doesn’t think it would be possible to negotiate before the March 5 deadline, when the policy expires.

Flake also said he’s going to give a series of speeches on President Trump and his relationship with the press.

"I noted how bad it is for a President to take what was popularized by Joseph Stalin ‘the enemy of the people’ to refer to the press,” Flake said. “Then you have authoritarians across the world using the term ‘fake news’ to justify cracking down on their opposition or to staunch legitimate debate, that’s nothing we should be proud of."

Flake said he believes President Trump’s comments about the press have real damage to the United States’ standing in the world.
