What Are The Potential Pitfalls Of Robotic Surgery?

We’ve all heard the warnings — robots are about to take over our jobs.

Surgery is one profession that has adopted this kind of technology early, using robotic surgery machines like the da Vinci in performing anything from hernia operations to removing cancer.

But this new technology is fundamentally changing the way surgeons are trained and it’s creating some problems for surgery residents, according to Matt Beane, project scientist with the Technology Management Program at UC Santa Barbara.

He studied this problem extensively, and speaks with The Show's Lauren Gilger about it.

Lauren Gilger, host of KJZZ's The Show, is an award-winning journalist whose work has impacted communities large and small, exposing injustices and giving a voice to the voiceless and marginalized.
