State Lawmakers Move To Protect KidsCare

One of the issues at play in negotiations over a stopgap spending bill in Congress is CHIP, the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

In Arizona, it’s called KidsCare, and Congress has not reauthorized the program since it officially expired last fall. Arizona has enough money to keep enrollees covered through the spring, but state law requires the feds to pay for the entire program.

A proposal in the Arizona House would scale that back, and give lawmakers the option of keeping the program up and running with state money.
