Surprise Police Failed To Notify Community About 22 Sex Offenders

Surprise police discovered last month that the department failed to notify locals of more than a dozen sex offenders living in the community.

Officials said the mistake spanned over two years, 2016 and 2017.

The process of notifying the community involves getting records, and that required-by-law process was not done for 22 registered sex offenders.

Surprise police declined an interview, but said in a statement they are investigating internally to see how this happened and fix it as quickly as possible.

Officials said they have looked at whether the offenders were linked to any sex crimes in the last few years and said they haven’t found any evidence of that happening.

Surprise officers plan to finish the notifications by the end of March.
