U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officials in Tucson are denying allegations they’re retaliating against the group, No More Deaths, which leaves food and water for illegal migrants.
CBP spokesperson Daniel Hernandez said, while it’s not illegal to do that, the line becomes blurred when those groups shelter migrants, which is what allegedly happened when agents arrestedNo More Deaths volunteer Scott Warren
"This was an incident based on evidence from a different type, from a different interaction," Hernandez said.
Warren was arrested last Wednesday after two migrants crossed the border illegally and sought shelter at an aid station in Ajo.
Warren’s arrest came hours after a video was released showing agents destroying water bottles left for border crossers.
