Ahead of Tuesday’s State of the Union Address by President Trump, an Arizona congressman has asked Capitol Police to check immigration status of all attendees. Republican Rep. Paul Gosar called on police to arrest any attendee not in the country legally.
“Of all the places where the Rule of Law needs to be enforced, it should be in the hallowed halls of Congress. Any illegal aliens attempting to go through security, under any pretext of invitation or otherwise, should be arrested and deported," said Congressman Gosar.

Gosar tweeted that he had contacted Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Capitol Police. Gosar is quoted as saying, “Of all the places where the Rule of Law needs to be enforced, it should be in the hallowed halls of Congress.”
Many Democratic lawmakers have said they’ll bring Dreamers — young people brought to the country illegally as children — as their guests to watch the speech.
Gosar has been criticized for the Tweet, including by members of his own party. Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake retweeted Gosar and wrote, “This is why we can’t have nice things.”
