BBB: Buyer Beware When Purchasing Resold Tickets

With the Waste Management Phoenix Open taking place this week, the Broadway hit “Hamilton” playing at ASU Gammage for the next month, and spring training around the corner, many fans are looking at ticket resale sites to get into the events. But resold tickets come with a risk.

Felicia Thompson is with the Better Business Bureau in Arizona. She said it’s important to make sure a ticket seller is legitimate.

“You really want to consider the source," Thompson said, "and so what that means is to really know the difference between whether you’re doing business with a professional ticket broker or someone who is maybe unlicensed and just selling tickets they may or may not have.”

Thompson said to avoid ticket sellers that request payment through a wire transfer or prepaid credit card. She also advised checking with the Better Business Bureau to verify ticket broker licenses, and to report scams.

Ticket scalping is legal in Arizona, except if within 200 feet of an entry of the event venue.
