Veterinarian Uses Bandage From Tilapia Skin To Help Animals Burned From Wildfires

The Thomas Fire in Southern California was one of the most destructive wildfires in the state’s history.

It destroyed nearly 1,000 structures, including more than 750 homes. Like any wildfire, it severely damaged the living conditions for wildlife, and many of the animals themselves were burned.

So how they can be assisted in recovering? One northern California veterinarian came up with a unique kind of bandage — made from tilapia skin.

And that veterinarian, Dr. Jamie Peyton of the University of California-Davis, is with me to talk about it.
