Off-Duty Tempe Fire Captain Shot To Death In Scottsdale

A Tempe fire captain was shot to death in Scottsdale on Sunday. Kyle Brayer, 34, was off duty when the incident occurred.

Brayer confronted a man who was bumping into his golf cart with a car. Scottsdale Police Sergeant Ben Hoster said Brayer was sitting in the back seat of the cart, facing backwards.

"(Brayer was) traveling southbound on Civic Center when a red Scion Coupe was behind them,” Hoster said. “(The Scion) began driving closely and then bumping the rear end of this transportation cart. The victim exited the cart and walked over to the driver of the Scion and he was shot in the head."

Hoster said the suspect fled the scene, hitting several other vehicles. He said the suspect was described as a clean cut, black male with short curly hair.

If you have any information about the suspect or the vehicle, Hoster said you are asked to call Scottsdale Police.
