Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey Issues Grand Canyon Executive Order

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has signed a new executive order in response to the latest government shutdown. Ducey said the new order will end any uncertainty about the Grand Canyon remaining open during future shutdowns.

"It brings about $900 million to the state of Arizona in economic development every year and 6 million visitors,” Ducey said. “It’s critical to the economic health and vitality and quality of life in our state and Arizonans need to know it’s protected."

Ducey’s executive order establishes the Grand Canyon Protection Plan. It calls on state parks and trails to coordinate with the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service to keep the Grand Canyon open during a federal government shutdown.
