Surprise Police Department Resolves Sex Offender Notification Issue

Surprise Police discovered late last year that the department had failed to notify locals of more than a dozen sex offenders living in the community. The department announced Thursday, Feb. 15 that the issue has been resolved.

Surprise Police Chief Terry Young said in a statement that as of Feb. 14, the department had completed all past due evaluations and notifications.

During the 2016 and 2017 calendar years, there were 22 community notifications that were not completed. Another 10 offenders had not been evaluated to determine whether or not they were subject to community notification.

Chief Young’s statement said: "We appreciate the support and understanding we received from our community as we worked to correct this situation."
