Arizona, Sonora Organize Cross-Border Business Forum

The economic development arms for the states of Arizona and neighboring Sonora are hosting a forum for businesses operating across the border in March. The event will attract companies from 10 industries, including mining.

The extraction of copper and other metals has long been a big business in Arizona. And just south of the border in Sonora, mining accounts for almost one-fifth that state’s economy. So, naturally, many Arizona companies sell materials like vehicles for mining or services like mining analysis in Mexico.

Kevin O’Shea with the Arizona Commerce Authority said next month’s conference is a good opportunity for that.

“It puts them in direct contact with people within various mining companies who have the purchasing authority to buy equipment and services from the Arizona companies," said O’Shea.

The Arizona-Sonora Expo-Business conference will also include companies in areas like aerospace and tourism. It’ll be held in the Sonoran capital of Hermosillo in mid-March.
