California Democratic Convention Highlights Tension In Party

California Democrats held their convention in San Diego over the weekend.

The big news out of the convention is longtime Sen. Dianne Feinstein didn’t receive the party’s endorsement.

The convention also highlighted the tensions between the progressives in the party and the establishment.

Joining us to discuss what the California Democratic Convention could mean for rest of the country is Scott Shafer, senior editor of California politics and government at KQED Public Media.

While the party didn’t endorse Feinstein, who’s been in Congress since 1992, they didn’t endorse her challenger either.

Since the 2016 election the Democrats have struggled to have a shared vision and definitive message.

California will elect a new governor this year, and current Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom led the other three candidates running for the office but, again, the party did not endorse a candidate.
