Federal Appeals Court Rules Civil Rights Act Should Include Sexual Orientation

On Monday, a federal appeals court in New York ruled that the landmark 1964 Civil Rights Act should also include sexual orientation.

This is being seen as a victory for the LGBT community. Last year, the federal appeals court in Chicago made a similar ruling.

However, in December, a Supreme Court denied a request to hear an appeal filed by the plaintiff in an Atlanta case.

Joining us to address what this means going forward is Ria Tabacco Mar, staff attorney with the ACLU’s Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender & HIV Project.
