A new campaign to force President Donald Trump to take action on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program will launch the day before the deadline he gave Congress to decide the fate hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants.
The campaign, led by a coalition of activist groups, will start in front of the White House, and aggressively lobby Trump to protect DACA recipients.
Organizers say they’ll unveil a new ad that uses the president’s own words against him.
Trump responds, when he’s put on the spot, said Lorella Praeli, director of immigration policy and campaigns at the American Civil Liberties Union.
“We can’t let him off the hook,” she said. “And it’s important to put all of the accountability and pressure on him.”
Two federal judges have blocked the government from completely ending DACA.
New data show that in the weeks after the first court order, roughly 11,000 people applied to renew their DACA permits, and there were about 683,000 people enrolled in the program.
