LA, Long Beach Want To Penalize Trucking Companies Underpaying Drivers

Two Southern California cities, LA and Long Beach, are looking for ways to penalize trucking companies they say are underpaying drivers. The companies are classifying drivers not as employees, but as independent contractors.

It’s a debate we’ve seen in other areas, as well. To talk about how it’s affecting the trucking industry, The Show poke with Nashat Moin.

Moin is the transportation sector analyst at the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board in San Francisco.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
