More than 30,000 Arizona consumers who bought General Motors’ vehicles are now eligible for millions of dollars in payments.
On Wednesday, the Arizona attorney general announced a settlement with the manufacturer over a series of recalls in 2014.
The settlement stems from a multi-state lawsuit alleging a handful of defects in GM vehicles purchased between July 2009 and July 2014 like faulty ignition switches and issues with airbags.
But Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich said there were no claims in that original lawsuit for consumer payments.
When he took office in 2015, Brnovich amended the suit to include that.
“We went after them and continued to go after them by ourselves as the state of Arizona. As a result of that, more than $6 million in refund checks will be mailed directly to eligible consumers in Arizona," Brnovich said.
Once the court approves the consent decree, all eligible consumers will be notified by mail and can send those notices back to receive at least $200.
