The Arizona State Fair WPA Civic Building was built during the Great Depression in 1938.

Starting Thursday night, three agencies will host a planning session, called a charrette, to think about the future of the Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix.

That includes considering the future of the historic buildings on the fairgrounds, including the 1938 WPA building. It had been slated for demolition a few years ago, but was ultimately saved.

To talk about this weekend’s events, The Show talked with Jim McPherson, board president of the Arizona Preservation Foundation.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
