Phoenix Deer Valley Submarket Welcomes Paychex Expansion

A payroll processing company will soon be issuing more paychecks in Phoenix.

More than 500 people already work for Paychex at its office in north Phoenix; only its corporate headquarters in Rochester, New York, employs more.

Paychex plans to increase its Deer Valley workspace by nearly 50 percent as it takes on more human resource functions for small- and medium-sized businesses and consolidates operations from California and other western offices.

The company is looking to fill dozens of immediate positions and estimates it could add hundreds over the next several years.

“We’re expanding our client services and IT teams in Phoenix,” said James Blackwood IV, senior manager in the Phoenix office. “A new technology center is being renovated in the expansion.”

Mark Bottini, senior vice president of sales for Paychex, said, “We liked the Phoenix lifestyle and the affordable cost of living for our employees and cost of doing business for the company.

Phoenix said the area near Interstate 17 and Loop 101 has one of the biggest concentrations of financial service and financial technology employees in the western U.S. and the largest in Arizona with more than 23,000 workers.
