Birds Come Back To Chaparral Burned By Prescribed Burns

The year 2017 was a historically bad year for wildfires in California. The Thomas Fire is now the biggest in state history, burning more than 281,000 acres in Southern California.

A new study in the Journal of Applied Ecology looks at how different fire management techniques in chaparral affected local bird populations.

Erica Newman, a fire ecologist and post-doctoral scholar at the University of Arizona helped write that paper, and she joins me via Skype.
