Arizona State University is proposing no tuition increase for incoming and returning resident undergraduates next year, although non-resident, international and graduate students will see an increase.
At the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University, tuition will also be flat for continuing, resident students. Incoming freshman are slated to pay more.
“We’re seeing now that the presidents overall are making every effort possible to keep the tuition prices that we advertise and that students pay are as low as possible,” said Eileen Klein, president of the Arizona Board of Regents.
She said the proposed flat rate is not a response to a lawsuit over tuition from the state attorney general.
“Our university presidents have to run the universities. And the tuition proposals are based on that and nothing but,” Klein said.
The universities will hold a public hearing on March 27. People can also submit online comments at [email protected], as well as by mail.
The Board of Regents votes on the plans April 5.
