The Alzheimer’s Association recently released its 2018 Alzheimer’s disease Facts and Figuresreport. This year’s edition contains the latest data for each state — and Arizona could be in the crosshairs.
The number of people living with Alzheimer’s disease in Arizona is expected to grow by nearly 43 percent by 2025. That translates to 60,000 people.
"Arizona is the No. 3 state in the country when it comes to projected increase in Alzheimer’s cases over the next seven years," said Keith Fargo with the Alzheimer’s Association.
He said it's primarily because of our aging population. Fargo said the cost to the country in 2018 for caring for this population is $277 billion. He said less than $2 billion is being invested into research. Fargo says the cost will continue to increase and by 2050, it could hit $1.1 trillion per year.
