The president of the Arizona Board of Regents is stepping down after five years on the job. Eileen Klein announced Monday she’ll be leaving the board later this year.
Klein has been the executive who oversees Arizona’s three public universities since 2013, when she was appointed by then-governor Jan Brewer. Under Klein’s leadership, ABOR has approved belt-tightening and tuition increases as the universities have struggled with state budget cuts. In a letter announcing her departure, Klein said the board has worked hard to strengthen schools, but there is still much work to be done.
Regents Chair Bill Ridenour praised Klein for advancing the board’s strategic plan for raising university quality and contributions to the state. The board will choose a replacement for Klein.
