Two businesses that sold work-from-home opportunities have been banned from operating in Arizona for six years. The businesses and their owner will pay more than $22,000 in restitution to consumers who purchased websites from them.
The Arizona Attorney General’s Office launched an investigation into First Progress and Nortec Strategies after consumers complained. They claimed the telemarketers made deceptive statements when selling websites to out-of-state consumers.
"My office has zero tolerance for unscrupulous telemarketers that invade our privacy and refuse to follow state telemarketing laws," Attorney General Mark Brnovich said in a statement Friday.
The companies also failed to register as telemarketers with the state of Arizona. The Attorney General’s Office is in the process of contacting consumers who may be eligible for restitution.
