What If States, Cities Tried To Attract Small Business Rather Than Big Ones Like Amazon?

Amazon has been meeting with some of the finalists to land its HQ2. Twenty cities are vying for the project, including Boston, LA, Miami, Denver and Dallas.

But some have been arguing against offering the kinds of incentives cities have been putting on the table in an effort to land the company’s second headquarters.

And some have gone even farther, wondering what would happen if cities and states subsidized local firms, rather than multi-national ones.

Brian O’Roark, an economics professor at Robert Morris University, joined The Show to talk about it.

Mark Brodie is a co-host of The Show, KJZZ’s locally produced news magazine. Since starting at KJZZ in 2002, Brodie has been a host, reporter and producer, including several years covering the Arizona Legislature, based at the Capitol.
