The conflict in Syria began in 2011 and has led to the loss of at least 400,000 Syrian lives. On top of that, millions of refugees have fled the country.

Bombings and attacks continue, as President Bashar al-Assad works to maintain his power over the country.

Recently in The New York Times Magazine, Anand Gopal — who is also an assistant research professor at ASU — wrote about civilian casualties in Syria and U.S. accountability.

The Show spoke with Gopal recently and started by asking just how drastically Syrian lives have been upended by the ongoing fighting.
