Water storage on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon has finally reached sustainable levels, after weeks of pipeline breaks and water restrictions. But some water conservation measures remain in place.
The South Rim is in Level 1 Water Conservation, meaning visitors, residents and businesses should be mindful of their water usage and continue basic water-saving practices.
That includes turning off water while brushing teeth, washing only full loads of dishes or laundry and selectively flushing the toilet. Residents are also reminded to use non-potable water for plants, lawns, and washing vehicles.
When water delivery is disrupted in the park, mandatory steps can include the use of disposable dishes and utensils in restaurants, closing laundry and showers for guests, and offering hand sanitizer — in lieu of working sinks — in the bathrooms.
