Phoenix New Times, Backpage.com Founder Indicted In Federal Case

Phoenix New Times founder Michael Lacey was charged in a federal indictment on Friday, according to reports. This is because Lacey is also one of the founders of the controversial classified site, Backpage.com.

On Friday, the FBI also raided Lacey’s Sedona home after years of questions about the ways in which Backpage contributes to human trafficking. Opponents of the site say it provided a platform for traffickers to advertise minors available for sex. Others say limiting the site is a violation of free speech.

Now, Backpage.com and its affiliates have been shut down by the FBI.
