A nationally recognized organizer detained by immigration authorities in Arizona is scheduled to have a bond hearing in Eloy Thursday morning, and could go free, her supporters say.
Nearly 25,000 people have signed an online petition calling for the release of Alejandra Pablos.
The petition was started by the activist group Mijente, which says Pablos was targeted by immigration authorities after taking part in a peaceful protest at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in Virginia.
Pablos, who is also a member of Mijente, was detained in early March at a regular check-in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Tucson, and has been held in Eloy since, her supporters say.
Pablos transformed her life after convictions for DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia and has become a nationally recognized activist for immigrant and reproductive rights.
Allies of Pablos plan to send envoys from Tucson and Phoenix to attend the bond hearing.
