Arizona parents are figuring out where to send their kids Thursday if their child’s school is closed for the walkout.
Tempe Robins runs a consulting firm in the Phoenix area. When she was trying to figure out what to do with her kids during the strike, she decided to take advantage of Take Your Child to Work Day, which, conveniently takes place April 26 around the country.
The Show talked with Robins about those plans.
Of course, not every working parent will have the option to take their child to work. Since the date for the walkout was set, more locations are offering a place for students to go.
Some of those options are free. A few churches are offering childcare. The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department is extending hours at more than 20 recreation centers, and some school districts, like Tempe Elementary and Kyrene, are offering day camps, but the number of spots is limited.
There are also more than a dozen impromptu camps — very similar to summer camps — at places like animal shelters and museums at a range of costs for the day. YMCA locations in Arizona are adding additional childcare for the walkout.
There’s no word yet if the walkout will extend through Friday.
