Former CIA director Mike Pompeo has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to succeed Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State.
Sen. Jeff Flake was an early holdout, but ultimately changed his mind and voted Thursday to support Pompeo in the new job.
“Pompeo is qualified,” Flake said. “He’s done a good job at the CIA. If you talk to his colleagues and the intelligence communities that he’s had oversight, he’s done well there.”
Flake said he believes Pompeo, as much as anybody, can influence President Trump in a positive way, especially when it comes to diplomacy on the Korean peninsula.
