A generation ago, if you wanted to buy a house, you had to go through a realtor. There were no sites like Zillow or Redfin where you could find out the price on your own. It’s just one way buying and selling houses has changed in recent years.
Another change is the arrival of online real estate platforms like Offerpad and Open Door. If you want to buy a home through Offerpad, for example, you go online, fill out a form about your home and, within 24 hours, they’ll make an offer on your house. While you're there, you can also buy any of the homes they’re selling with instant access showings.
Sites like these are raising some questions about the future of the real estate industry — and the role of traditional real estate agents.
