Federal Judge Rules 'Ballot Harvesting' Law Stands

For the second time, a federal judge has upheld the law banning "ballot harvesting" in Arizona.

Until lawmakers made it illegal in 2016, both Democrats and Republicans used "Ballot Harvesting" to collect mail-in ballots from complacent or immobilized voters.

But the Get Out The Vote campaign became a political lightning rod after Republican leaders announced it can lead to fraud.

The same U.S. District Court Judge who rejected challengers' initial requests to stop its enactment made his final ruling on Wednesday after deciding whether or not the law created a hardship or racial bias among voters

While he granted that there has "never been a case of voter fraud associated with ballot collecting in Arizona," he found challengers showed no proof it was suppressing minority voting.

Local and National Democratic parties have already submitted for an appeal.
