Crews Stop Forward Progress On Viewpoint Fire, Residents Return Home

Firefighters have stopped forward progress on the Viewpoint Fire, burning about 15 miles north of Prescott.

The fire reached more than 5,000 acres by Friday afternoon, before crews could stop its growth. Tiffany Davila is with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. She said a few homes and about a dozen other structures were destroyed by the blaze.

"And all of those were in the Poquito Valley area," Davila said. "Today the county is gonna get into those neighborhoods and assess the situation and confirm any more structure loss in those areas.”

Davila said in total, about 100 structures in the Poquito Valley area were evacuated. Evacuation notices were lifted as of Friday evening.
