A White House communications aide caused a stir this week when she made a comment about Senator John McCain’s declining health. Some politicians don’t think the White House has appropriately responded to the comment.
White House communications aide Kelly Sadler is reported to have said McCain’s opposition to President Trump’s choice to lead the CIA doesn’t matter because "He’s dying anyway."
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation Sunday morning, calling the remarks disgusting. He said the White House should admit to the country that the comment was inappropriate.
"John McCain can be criticized for any political decision he’s ever made or any vote he’s ever cast, but he’s an american hero," Graham said. "I think most Americans would like to see the Trump Administration do better in situations like this. It doesn’t hurt you at all to do the right thing and to be big.”
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said she would not comment on an internal staff meeting, confirming that Sadler was still employed. Sadler later offered an apology to McCain’s daughter.
