Human-Caused Potato Fire Burning Near Arizona Route 87

The Potato Fire was reported just before 1 p.m. Sunday. It’s burning through brush and grass on the east side of State Route 87, south of a forest service road to Mount Ord.

Carrie Templin, spokeswoman with the Tonto National Forest, said the fire grew to about 25 acres by early Sunday evening.

"We have multiple crews, engines, hot shots and actually had an air tanker assisting us this afternoon, as well as having Maricopa County and DPS and ADOT help us with traffic control on that area so that firefighters could safely work right along the road where the fire was,” Templin said.

Templin said the fire was human caused, but they are still investigating. The fire isn’t threatening any structures at this time.
