It’s Memorial Day weekend and crowds are expected to gather at several Maricopa County lakes. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is increasing patrols to keep those areas safe.
In addition to those patrols, deputies want to educate lake visitors on what they can do to stay safe. MCSO sergeant Bryant Vanegas said watercraft enforcement is on the top of the list for lake patrols.
"Deputies will be on the water starting about 7 a.m. and going well after sun down," Vanegas said. "So they’ll have a large amount of time on the water ensuring that they’re enforcing the laws and looking out to educate people who are at the lakes.”
Vanegas said lake visitors should stay hydrated, know their swimming capabilities, and not operate boats while impaired.
