ADOT Mandates Lowered I-17 Speed Limits For Memorial Day Weekend

The Arizona Department of Transportation is mandating lowered speed limits this weekend. Those traveling along Northbound I-17 will have to drive about ten miles per hour slower than usual.

ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel said the goal is to get drivers’ attention and to make them think about their driving behaviors.

"All it takes is a fender bender to slow traffic down, especially on the Northbound travel at the start of the weekend and so what we’re trying to do is get the attention of drivers, make them more aware of the need for safe driving behaviors.”

The lower speed limits will switch to the Southbound side on Sunday. The posted lower speed limits are targeting the 17 between Black Canyon City and Sunset Point.
