Salvation Army Sets Up Heat Relief Stations Throughout The Valley

With an excessive heat warning in effect this week, the Salvation Army is offering heat relief stations where people to wait out the weather.

All 12 Salvation Army units in the Valley will have stations set up with cold drinks from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the heat wave. Major Nancy Dihle with the organization said last year, there were 155 heat related deaths in Maricopa County.

"That’s from people that don’t have access to water or enough water," Dihle said. "They also are finding a real problem with people who are at home, but are having to make decisions about whether to have air conditioning or pay for medication.”

Dihle said those who want to help can donate 16 ounce bottles of water to the organization. For more information on where you can donate or heat relief locations, visit their  website
