The Arizona Department of Transportation has permanently closed one exit ramp along Interstate 10. A second exit will be closed in a few days.

The closures are part of the work being done on the South Mountain Freeway.

ADOT permanently closed the eastbound ramp at 51st Avenue on Wednesday night. The agency says the eastbound ramp at 59th Avenue will also be permanently closed on Monday.

The ramps will be removed to make way for a new interchange that will connect the Loop 202 extension to I-10.

The new freeway is set to open in late 2019.
