Six lightning-caused wildfires moved across the Mogollon Rim this week as Arizona nears the start of its monsoon season, which officially begins Friday.

U.S. Forest Official George Jozens said forward progress of the Tank Fire has stopped.

“We saw the threat of thunderstorms and some outburst winds and possible new starts today with the monsoon season. Hopefully contained, but lightning could cause some difficulties for us this afternoon, and the winds, but I think we have a pretty good grip on it at this point,” said Jozen.

The Tank Fire is burning just northeast of the junction of Lake Mary Road and state Route 87 on the Mogollon Rim.

The fire is approximately 170 acres and 0 percent contained, officials said Thursday=.
