This Father’s Day weekend, Arizona’s state and federal lawmakers are sounding off about immigration legislation.
Sen. Jeff Flake, whose own legislation to solve the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in February was defeated, said he thinks the Trump administration’s current policy on separating families from parents seeking asylum isn’t acceptable.
“Those applying for asylum are taking advantage of legal framework, not disobeying the law, and to be separated from kids for so long doesn’t seem right to me,” he said.
Arizona House Rep. Tony Navarette, standing outside Immigration and Customs Enforcement in downtown Phoenix Friday, said the Trump Administration’s policy must end. “I’m here to continue to ask this administration to stop this bad policy that is taking children away from their parents, especially during this critical weekend that is Father’s Day.”
The U.S. House is expected to vote on two immigration bills this week.
