Arizona State Sen. Bob Worsley announced Monday he won’t be running for re-election, despite turning in enough signatures to be on the ballot.

Worsley said the political climate, and the state of the Republican party, influenced his decision.

"Separating kids on the border," Worsley said, "I mean, we've got to wake up to what this extremism is doing to the tone and tenor of our politics."

Worsley has served Legislative District 25 in Mesa since 2012. He is a businessman who helped launch SkyMall.

Tyler Pace will now run unopposed for the Republican nomination for Worsley's seat. Kathy Mohr-Almeida is running unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
