VA Releases New Data For Nursing Home Care Quality

The VA released data on the quality of care in VA nursing homes, which showed they are worse on average than private sector facilities.

Nearly half of VA nursing homes nationwide, including one in Prescott, received the lowest ranking for the quality of care. Dr. Sam Foote filed the complaint that launched the major investigation into the Phoenix VA several years ago for delayed care leading to deaths.

Foote blames the director at the Prescott facility, who was hired 18 months ago.

“Things have gotten worse. She has been chasing away good staff, including people who I know from the nursing home there, and they are just fed up with what the shenanigans are that she is doing,” said Foote.

Foote believes that good people leaving and poor leadership are the biggest problems in the VA. Directors also have to come up through the system, which Foote also finds problematic.
