Arizona Narrows Down 'Opportunity Zones'

A couple of months ago, Arizona submitted its initial nominations for so-called " Opportunity Zones."

Those are specific census tracts that may be able to take advantage of capital gains in the recent tax reform package. Those tracts have to contain a population where at least 20 percent of the residents are below the federal poverty level.

Now the next step has been taken as a committee led by Arizona Commerce Authority CEO Sandra Watson helped narrow down the state’s list, concentrating on both urban and rural tracts.

Shawn Neidorf, senior vice president for research at the Arizona Commerce Authority, joined The Show to talk more about it.

Steve Goldstein was a host at KJZZ from 1997 to 2022.
