President Donald Trump has repeatedly blamed Democratic lawmakers for the lack of a solution to family separations at the border.
Speaking on ABC’s This Week Sunday, Senator Jeff Flake said Trump’s comments aren’t helping.
"And so when the President says that and calls them clowns and losers," Flake said, "how does he expect the Democrats to sit down and work with Republicans on these issues?”
Flake said he doesn't expect judges to allow the longer detention and another solution will be necessary.
A so-called "compromise bill" in the U.S. House would allow families crossing the border illegally to be detained for more than 20 days.
