With primary elections two months away, an Emerson College poll finds Democratic Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema has the edge in a race against each of the Republican candidates: former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, former State Senator Kelli Ward, and Congresswoman Martha McSally.
McSally has the tightest deficit, eight points behind Sinema in a hypothetical face-off. Sinema leads Ward in a race by 17 points, while leading Arpaio by 24 points.
"Martha McSally has the most room to gain supporters in that race," said Abby Silverman, a graduate student at Emerson College who created the poll. "But the Democrats seem to be in a good position to potentially take that seat."
The poll also finds that Governor Doug Ducey has a 22-point edge over Republican challenger Ken Bennett. The poll finds that the governor has a 31 percent approval rating among Arizonans, which is lower than President Donald Trump's 43 percent approval rating in the state.
In the Democratic race for governor, David Garcia has a lead over Steve Farley and Kelly Fryer.
