The city of Prescott announced the cancellation of their Fourth of July fireworks show Wednesday.
Citing dry conditions and a high fire risk, Fire Chief Dennis Light said canceling the fireworks was in the interest of public safety.
Prescott Mayor Greg Mengarelli said he fully supports the decision.
“Safety must always be our first priority,” he said in a statement. “Even without the fireworks, there will be a full day of family friendly activities planned to celebrate Independence Day.”
The city already purchased the fireworks, but said they will be used at an Octoberfest Event in a couple of months.
This is the fourth city to call off their July 4 show due to high fire risk. Flagstaff, Williams and Cave Creek announced their decision on Monday.
